When The Cybernetic Tea Shop first came out, I saw a few tweets saying that people would like to try some of the teas described in it. And you know what, me too—I don’t think it’s any surprise to anyone who read that book that I love tea. So I signed up with Adagio Teas, which allows you to blend your own teas and share them with others, and made the mentioned teas (and a few others!). Please note that I don’t get any money off sales of these (though I will get points to eventually buy more teas myself), I’m just sharing for the sheer love of tea.
The Dorian Gray
“As well as the caramel, it has an addition of apple and lavender. As I understand it, it has a smokier taste than the usual Earl Grey, with a hint of sweetness behind that.”
A black tea, highly caffeinated, for the mechanic on the go. A blend of earl grey lavender, candy apple, and caramel black teas, accented with apple pieces. Steep from a full boil for three minutes. Serve plain or with milk or sugar as you see fit.
Full ingredients: black tea, lavender flowers, apple pieces, orange peels, blue cornflowers, natural vanilla flavor, natural caramel apple flavor, natural bergamot flavor, natural creme flavor, cinnamon bark, natural caramel flavor.
“If you like Earl Greys, you might also like the Monochrome. It is an Earl Grey variant mixed with a Lapsang Souchong and some honey. I have heard it has a very smoky flavor.”
A black tea, highly caffeinated, because you’d better be your best if you’re poking around inside literal AIs. A blend of earl grey bravo and lapsang souchong, accented with apricot pieces. Steep from a full boil for two minutes. I suggest serving with a spoonful of honey mixed in, as well as milk or sugar as you see fit.
Full ingredients: black tea, lapsang souchong, orange peels, apricot, natural bergamot flavor, blue cornflowers.
“She settled on a plum cinnamon rooibos. It had a little bit of spice, a taste she could pretend would wake her up, a warmth to keep off the chill.”
A rooibos tea, non-caffeinated, for those times where you don’t want to stay up too late, but still want to watch snow fall past the street lights. Unfortunately, no plum flavoring was available, but I mimicked the taste with a blend of peach, cinnamon apple, and apricot rooibos and honeybush teas, accented with cinnamon. Steep from a full boil for 5 minutes.
Full ingredients: rooibos tea, honeybush tea, apple pieces, cinnamon bark, natural apple flavor, natural cinnamon flavor, marigold flowers, natural peach flavor, natural apricot flavor, apricots.
“Get me a black tea, and your best fruity herbal for Nadie.” The woman nodded. It seemed it was acceptable that he speak for both of them.”
A fruit-based herbal tea, which you can pick for yourself or give as a gift, whatever you like. Made from a blend of raspberry, strawberry, apples, blood orange, hibiscus flowers, rose hips, and lemongrass. Steep from a full boil for five minutes.
Full ingredients: rose hips, hibiscus, apple pieces, orange peels, natural raspberry flavor, raspberries, natural orange flavor, natural strawberry flavor, strawberries, natural wild cherry flavor, lemon grass, marigold flowers.
“Too many people were rooted to a concept of home, wanted to have the same place to return to every day, walk the same paths between home and work, to see the same faces every day.”
A black tea, highly caffeinated, guaranteed to wake you up and get you ready to go on an adventure. Made from a mix of chocolate and gingerbread black teas, with mango inclusions. The mix has a mildly mocha-like flavor. Steep from a full boil for 3 minutes.
Full ingredients: black tea, cocoa nibs, natural chocolate flavor, natural gingerbread flavor, ginger root, orange peels, mango, cinnamon bark.
“It—she—was a robot. A real one, Clara was fairly sure.”
It looks like a black tea, it smells like a black tea, it has the heart of a black tea, but it’s a decaf! A fresh-tasting, refreshing sleepy tea to help you wind down and remind you that you’re home now. Made from a mix of chamomile, lemongrass, and decaf vanilla black tea, accented with ginger. Steep from a full boil for four minutes.
Full ingredients: decaf ceylon tea, chamomile, lemon grass, natural vanilla flavor, ginger.
